Dawn Asteroid Mission
NASA Asteroid Mission
The Dawn Mission’s objective is to determine the conditions and processes of the solar system by investigating two enormous protoplanets that have remained intact since their formation. Ceres and Vesta reside in the vast zone between Mars and Jupiter along with many other smaller bodies, called the asteroid belt. Each protoplanet has followed a unique evolutionary path and a diversity of processes in the first few million years of the solar system’s evolution. The Dawn spacecraft will deliver images of a variety of landscapes of never before seen worlds to the public. We can look forward to views of craters, lava flows, mountains, canyons, polar caps and maybe even lakebeds.
