About DAWN

DAWN Launched in December of 2022 (Under the name Sisterhood Community)

Building a safe space for cross-generational and cross-cultural women-centered connections is a deeply felt calling and a big life purpose for the founder, Elissa. She invested her time and money to create free events so she could learn what women need and want from a community.

In 2023 DAWN grew to a community of 350+ local women in business.

DAWN has transformed lives!

New friendships blossomed, new collaborations were built,

new connections were formed, and businesses grew because

of connections made through our events.

A membership creates more opportunities for growth, bigger gatherings,

and more workshops, classes, and transformational experiences!

If this is something you believe in too, we can grow this into something amazing together!

When you invest in DAWN, you are investing in the
greater good and you are investing in yourself!

You are saying "YES!" to yourself, "YES!" to personal and professional growth, "YES!" to all women creating financial freedom, and "YES" to being a part of a supportive community!

Message From
The Founding Director

Hi! My name is Elissa Kennedy

I founded DAWN in December of 2022 in an attempt to revive the culture of a village, where people know and support each other, with a natural elder system that values cross-generational and cross-cultural connections.

Over the past year, DAWN has grown and connected with over 350 women! Our Networking events are full of support and love! Everyone who attends is touched by the feeling of belonging!

Elissa Kennedy is a certified life coach and the founder of DAWN, the Davis Area Women's Network

Davis is unique because people come from all over the world to be here. I created DAWN to fill a need for women who are transplants without family nearby or who want to find their people and feel connected and supported by other women! Through our connection, we notice all the ways that we are the same and honor, celebrate, and learn about the wonderful ways that we are each different and unique.

DAWN is fast becoming that special community where everyone's voice, wisdom, and life experiences are valued!  We are redefining success for women, creating powerful connections, and creating a safe space where everyone belongs and rises together!

In 2024 we are planning for sustainable growth! You will see more events, workshops, and opportunities to share your knowledge and expand your network.

I chose to focus on supporting women in local business because I believe that when women thrive and live in abundance the whole community becomes a better place!

As an ICF-certified Holistic Life Coach, I bring my skills to the community to support women in developing a growth mindset. As a natural community builder and connector, I facilitate a culture that values collaboration over competition and connection over isolation. We all benefit when we grow together!

Our Stories Will Bond Us, Here's Mine and I Hope You Will Share Your Story Too
I'm originally from rural upstate New York. I was born to teen parents and learned to be very frugal, crafty, and thrifty. I was a country kid, raised by a village of extended family and a tight-knit community of people who looked after one another.

I grew up surrounded by the natural beauty of the Hudson Valley, where I learned to forage, camp, fish, build an amazing fire, and cook. I walked to my grandmother's house where I spent time learning to bake, garden, and sew. I can't imagine what my life would be without my incredible grandmother's influence.

When I was 15, I moved to the colorful city of San Francisco, with my mother and sister. It was challenging to be so far from family and shift from country to city life. But once I adjusted I couldn’t imagine a better place to live. I enjoyed expanding my understanding of the world in such a diverse city and learned to appreciate other cultures through wonderful friendships, amazing food, and beautiful cultural celebrations.

When my husband and I decided to leave San Francisco 13 years ago, we vowed to help our children learn more about world cultures through travel and their Spanish Immersion education. I feel extremely lucky to live in Davis with my husband, our children, a golden retriever, and two cats.

Spending foundational years in a small town and then moving to a city helped me to have a unique perspective on people. I realized at a young age that people have more in common than they have differences. We all want a sense of belonging, love, and connection and to be happy doing what we love.

So here I am, like so many others in Davis, wondering what I can do to create the thing I've been missing... community. I hope you will join me! Let's work together to be sure it's valuable to all of you!

I am so grateful that you are here on this journey with us!

xo,

Elissa
